This is a list of diplomatic missions of Afghanistan, excluding honorary consulates.
At the height of the Taliban regime in the 1990s the only Afghan missions were in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (the only countries which recognised the Taliban regime). For a while when the Taliban controlled 90% of the country, the ultra-fundamentalist regime was also seeking to regain control of Afghanistan's seat at the United Nations, held by the Northern Alliance.
Shortly after the September 11 attacks, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates closed down the Afghan missions to the point Afghanistan had no foreign functioning embassies. As of 2012, Afghanistan has diplomatic missions in 43 countries around the world.
